“Stop for a moment!” You yell.
Everyone pauses, including the guy with the knife.
“No more killing. Too many people have died today. Killing her will just cause World War 3, and I don’t want that blood on my hands.”
“So what do you suggest you idiot?”
You pause for a moment and laugh, as idiot as an insult was nothing compared to what you have gone through.
“Everyone sits back down at this table and starts this discussion back up again, from the beginning.”
The president looks annoyed.
“What good does that do?”
“It saves your life. Plus look at what we’ve been doing, we might not have been the best before the little coup we had, but it hasn’t done anything to improve our image, in fact its worse.”
She reluctantly gets up off the floor and walks over to the damaged table and takes a seat.
The negotiation goes on for several hours. Your leader was not a good negotiator, however an agreement was made, although a bit reluctantly. As a result, the social justice outreach programs the government instituted to spread the thought style we have as a country and in western Europe was canceled. In addition, agreements to improve living conditions for “privileged” people would be improved in the country, or else an economic blockade would occur. Also, the three of you were spared any punishment and were taken into asylum by the Philippine government.
You end up spending the last years of your life sitting back and enjoying freedom. The three of you end up making speeches about your living condition in America and ended up being a catalyst for sanctions against the country. Those sanctions ended up being successful, although at the cost of the government collapsing. After several years, a handful of countries popped up in North America as a replacement to the former country. Some of these countries carried on the former social justice policies, others became flat out “patriarchies” that celebrated people such as Hitler and Pinochet, and others tried to take on the former ideals of the original United States. These countries ended up being in conflict with each other as each fought over what ideal system would become the dominant system for the continent.
It took nearly a century before the country became one again. The new country had ideals similar to the way the United States was supposed to be, a collection of states with a common idea of freedom with extra safeguards against polarizing politics. The first President of the new country established May 23rd, the day you and your friends forced the discussion to be made way back then in your memory. Schools were named after all three of you and proper education was put into place to ensure that politics never got one sided in either direction ever again.
:-)
FIN
(You have found a happy ending, or what can kinda be considered as one. You can start over to see if there’s another ending if you want, but that’s all folks!)
